Me learning about me

A couple things I’ve come to realize to be true for me now that I’m in my 40’s, going to therapy, and still figuring things out.

  • Most people are making it up as they go along. There are a small percentage who have serious expertise in things. They might be making it up as they go along in other ways, but they also went to school for years in order to do brain surgery, and creating vaccines, and landing rovers on Mars. We should trust those people because they are NOT making THAT stuff up as they go along.

  • Putting pressure on yourself to accomplish gigantic things sucks. It’s not good for you and it’s not good for anyone around you. That stuff gets toxic and festers. You exist, and that’s enough. This isn’t to say nobody should try anything. Of course you should. You just shouldn’t base your self-worth on it.

  • You will never regret going to the gym.

  • Nobody is keeping score about you. Nobody cares, and not in a bad way. They’re worried about their own stuff.

  • Grilled cheese and tomato soup is still, arguably, the best meal.

  • People can change, and that’s good.

  • Learning about new things is awesome. Learning about yourself is even more awesome.

  • Everybody is too hard on themselves.

This is all stuff I’m still learning and still internalizing because it’s easy to forget. Except for the grilled cheese thing.
